HALT Certification Timelines 2025

Timelines

Preparation
  1. Register to attend the Understanding National Certification: A First Step (for applicants) introductory information session.
  2. Check your Eligibility requirements
  3. Complete the AITSL Teacher Self-Assessment Tool
  4. Schedule a professional discussion with your principal and assess your readiness to apply for HALT certification
  5. Complete an Expression of Interest Form with your principal and mentor and email to halt.trb@trb.nt.gov.au
Stage 1
  1. Register to attend a full day HALT Certification Workshop: Deep Dive into Standards, Evidence and the Certification Process here Events | Teacher Registration Board
  2. Work with your school-based mentor to gather evidence and align and annotate it to the APSTs
  3. Formally register on the TRB database through the website by logging into MyTRBNT and completing the HALT Application form
  4. Complete an Intention to Submit Form no less than 28 days before your portfolio is lodged and email to halt.trb@trb.nt.gov.au
  5. Make the Stage 1 payment of $925 through MyTRBNT
  6. Ensure that all required documentation is submitted and accessible when sending through the Stage 1 portfolio. 
  7. After the submission has been assessed by two nationally trained HALT assessors, you will receive notification of the outcome of Stage 1, please be aware that this can take a few weeks to complete.

Submission Windows for 2025:

  • 3 – 14 March 2025
  • 2 – 13 June 2025
  • 6 – 17 October 2025

Applications will not be accepted outside of these time periods. The number of applications able to be assessed is dependent on HALT Assessor availability.

Stage 2
  1. If you are successful at Stage 1, you will receive a comprehensive written report and a Stage 2 Site Visit Planning Proforma. You will need to negotiate dates for the visit and arrange time slots for the assessor to observe you teaching 2 x 60-minute lessons and speak with your nominated referees. This form will then be emailed to halt.trb@trb.nt.gov.au
  2. Make the Stage 2 payment of $900 through MyTRBNT
  3. After the Stage 2 site visit, you will receive a final report informing of you and your employer of the outcome.
  4. Upon successfully achieving HALT certification, you will be recognised as a certified HALT for a period of 5 years. After this time, you will need to complete the renewal process to maintain your certification.
