Lorraine Evans is the Principal at Malak Primary in Darwin and has been teaching in the Northern Territory, urban and remote schools, since 1993.  She brings to the Board a considerable experience and understanding of mentoring aspiring leaders and trauma informed practice for students and staff alike. Lorraine has successfully led five NT school communities as their principal and enjoys being part of a team focusing on all students accessing quality teaching and learning.  

In 2018 Lorraine was awarded a Teaching in the Territory Excellence Award as the NT Principal of the Year and the Principal Institute Of Australia’s John Laing Professional Development Award for her leadership of professional learning for teachers and aspiring leaders. In 2019, she received a National Commonwealth Bank Schools Plus Fellow Scholarship Award, acknowledging the work of her team in turning around student outcomes in the early years, this included an International Study Tour to Singapore with the objective of analysing the impact of a system where teachers are highly valued and  system investment in teachers is career long and significant. 

Lorraine is an executive member of the Northern Territory Principal’s Association (Darwin Chapter Chair) and has been an active mentor for the DoE Leadership Pipeline Program since its inception in 2018. She has served as the Minister’s appointee to the NT Child Death Investigation and Prevention Committee and a Student Behaviour Management Taskforce, each for a period of three years.
