TRB update
This is the first edition of the TRB Update for 2008. If you know a teacher who has not received this email from the Board, please encourage them to advise the Board of their current contact details.
Jean Memery’s retirement from the Board
Jean Memery retired from the Teacher Registration Board in December 2007 and from her role as Chair of the Board. Jean’s vision was integral to the establishment of the Board, and its achievements in its first three years of operation can be attributed in large part to her leadership and commitment.
New TRB Chair
The Board is very pleased to announce the election in March of Karen Blanchfield as the new Chair of the Teacher Registration Board. Karen is the Principal of Ross Park Primary School and is the Association of Northern Territory School Educational Leaders (ANTSEL) nominee on the Board. Karen was the inaugural Deputy Chair of the Board.
The new Deputy Chair of the Board is Steve Carter who is the Council of Australian Government Schools Organisation (COGSO) nominee on the Board and is a foundation Board member.

Registration Renewals and New Registrations
Currently there are 4862 teachers registered in the Northern Territory. Of the 3487 teachers whose registration was due to expire 31 December 2007, 2942 renewed their registrations.
Of the new teachers the Board has registered since July 2007, just over 50% registered under the Mutual Recognition arrangements; the majority of these teachers are from either Victoria or Queensland.
Online Register search
In January 2008, the Board introduced the on line search facility of the Register of Teachers. The Register does not include teachers with interim registration or persons employed under authorisation. Any registered teacher can now access the Register online and call up their registration number and the expiry date.
Coming up
In the next editions of the TRB Update, expect a report on the professional development survey in which over 400 Northern Territory teachers participated, an update on progress on the introduction of provisional registration and progress on developing the Northern Territory Standards of Practice for Accomplished Teachers.
