Granting registration

Term of registration

If an applicant is eligible for Full Registration, the Board must grant Full Registration to the applicant for a term that:

  • Ends at the end of a specified calendar year;
  • Comprises at least five full school years; and
  • Does not exceed six years.

If an applicant is eligible for Provisional Registration but not eligible for Full Registration, the Board must grant Provisional Registration to the applicant for a term that:

  • Ends at the end of a specified calendar year;
  • Comprises at least three full school years; and
  • Does not exceed four years.

Conditions on registration

In granting registration under the Teacher Registration (Northern Territory) Act, the Board may impose on the registration any conditions the Board considers appropriate.

In granting registration under the Mutual Recognition (MR) Principle, the Board may impose conditions on the registration, subject to the provisions of the relevant MR legislation.

Certificate of registration

The Director will issue the newly registered person with a certificate of registration that shows:

  • Unique identification details - the teacher’s name and TRB registration number
  • The registration category - Full Registration or Provisional Registration
  • The financial expiry date - the date to which Registration Fees have been paid
  • The term of registration - start date and finish date
  • Conditions - whether there are any conditions imposed on the registration.
