This is the first edition of the new TRB Update and, as the title suggests, the aim is to provide you with regular updates about the Board's activities. The plan is to send it out by email after each Board meeting, so we ask that you keep your email contact up to date and advise your colleagues to do the same. The update will be available on the TRB website, which we will restructure in the coming months to make it easier to use and find information. Your feedback is welcome on this update and our website.
Board members are Jean Memery (Chair), Karen Blanchfield (Deputy Chair), Natalie Hyde, John Sarev, Robyn Ober, Rod Smith, Elsabe Bott, Alison Elliott, Steve Carter, Didamain Uibo, Helen Webber and Greg O’Mullane.
On 15 June this year there were 4670 teachers registered in the NT and 67 people working under authorisations. At the last Board meeting on 2 August, the Board registered a further 79 teachers and approved 8 to be employed under authorisation.
The current annual fee for registration in the Northern Territory is $60, which is on a par with fees in other states – and modest compared with the fees that apply for most other professions.
Four committees report to the Board: Registration Procedures Committee, Professional Standards and Ethics Committee, Professional Development and Course Accreditation Committee and the Complaints and Inquiries Committee. Committee details and membership
The Professional Standards for Accomplished Teachers are currently being drafted. The next writing workshop will be on 16 August and the draft will be circulated for comment before the final version is confirmed. Copies of the Professional Standards for Graduating and Competent Standards and posters are available from the TRB Office.
