Committees of the Board
Under Section 25 of the Teacher Registration (Northern Territory) Act 2004, the Board may establish committees as it considers appropriate to assist the Board in performing its functions. A committee is to be comprised of one or more members of the Board and any other persons as the Board considers appropriate.
The Board has established four committees to assist it to perform its functions.
All committees can make recommendations to the Board on matters that have been referred to them by the Board. Membership of the committees is by invitation.
All the committees make a significant contribution to the work of the Board in reviewing processes, developing policy, promoting the profession and fulfilling the regulatory and professional responsibilities for the Board under the Act.
Professional Standards and Ethics Committee
To improve the quality of teaching and raise student outcomes through the promotion of professional standards for teaching and the code of ethics.

Complaints and Inquiries Committee
To improve the quality of teaching and to promote the profession by ensuring that reports of serious misconduct and serious incompetence are investigated.
Registration Procedures Committee
To ensure that all teachers employed in the Northern Territory schools are appropriately qualified and are of good character.

Preservice Accreditation Committee (PAC)
The PAC fulfils the functions of the Board outlined in Section 11(d) of the Act with the following terms of reference:
- To advise the Board and make recommendations on the assessment and accreditation of preservice teacher education programs to ensure graduates meet the Northern Territory Standards of Practice for Graduating Teachers for the purposes of teacher registration
This is a new committee and its membership is still being determined.

The Professional Learning Committee (PLC)
The Board has a statutory responsibility under the Teacher Registration (Northern Territory) Act 2004 Section 11(e)(h) and (i) to:
- Liaise with the Agency administering the Education Act in relation to strategic priorities for professional development of teachers in the Territory
- Liaise with employers of teachers in the Territory in relation to developing the competencies of teachers during the early stages of the teachers’ careers.
- Research and promote best practice in teaching in the Territory
This is a new committee and its membership is still being determined.
