Meet the Board

Karen Blanchfield

Ms Karen Blanchfield, Chair
The nominee of the Association of NT School Educational Leaders

Ms Blanchfield has worked in a variety of schools and office positions overseas and in the Northern Territory. She has taught at Alice Springs since 1981 and is Principal of Ross Park Primary School. She recently completed her Master of International Management and is an executive member of the Association of Northern Territory School Educational Leaders (ANTSEL). Ms Blanchfield was Deputy Chairperson prior to becoming Chairperson of the Teacher Registration Board.

Steve Carter

The nominee of the NT Council of Government School Organisations

Mr Carter is employed by the Power and Water Corporation as the gas supply coordinator. Prior to this he has been associated with the oil and gas industry working in Europe and the Middle East as well as Australia. Mr Carter is a long-serving executive member of the Council of Government School Organisations (COGSO), President from 1996 to 1998 and a Life Member. He has a long-standing interest in education and is well informed about educational issues at the local and national level.

Elsabe Bott

The nominee of the Independent Education Union of the NT (IEU)

Elsabe Bott has taught in the Northern Territory since 1988, working in both the Independent and Catholic sectors. Elsabe's experience in the Northern Territory has given her to opportunity to work with a diverse range of students of different cultural backgrounds and abilities. Her interest in working with Indigenous students led to her completing a Master of Educational Studies (Aboriginal Education). She takes a keen interest in professional development activities and professional standards for teachers, which complements the work of theTeacher Registration Board. Elsabe is currently a member of the NT Advisory Committee of the Queensland/NT Branch of the Independent Education Union.

Stephen Nimmo

Stephen is a past Vice-President of the Northern Territory Branch of the Australian Education Union. His teaching career includes several years in the Northern Territory and a three year spell in Vietnam. He has taught in both urban and remote schools and across the whole age range from Transition classes to Year 12 English. Stephen has a joint honours degree in English and Philosophy from the University of Strathclyde and a Graduate Diploma of Education from the University of New England. Stephen is currently Manager of Regional Operations for the Barkly.

Peter Kell

Professor Peter Kell
The nominee of Charles Darwin University

Professor Peter Kell is Head of the School of Education at Charles Darwin University. Professor Kell was appointed to Charles Darwin University in May 2011 and was previously the Director of the UNESCO-UNEVOC centre at the Hong Kong Institute of Education. Peter Kell has a background as a teacher in the Northern Territory and has also worked as a teacher in Technical and Further Education. Dr Kell has previously worked at the University of Wollongong, RMIT University and James Cook University and has wide experience in preservice and postgraduate teacher education and research in education. Peter Kell’s current research includes projects on overseas volunteering, global student mobility and international literacy and numeracy testing.

 Claire Kilgariff

The nominee of the Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education (BIITE)

Claire Kilgariff took up the position as Head of the Faculty of Education, Arts and Social Sciences at Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education in June 2009. Her undergraduate qualifications are in Visual Arts, Music and Education and post graduate in Leadership and Change. Claire has made a significant contribution to education in the Northern Territory through her contribution to preservice teacher preparation programs, leadership development teacher professional learning, whole school approaches to leadership, change and improvement and the development of the Indigenous education workforce. Over her career Claire has taught across all stages of schooling and in Higher Education, held school management positions, run her own business and worked as an Executive in the NT Government on strategy, policy and programs for workforce and organisational development.

Greg O'Mullane

Mr Greg O'Mullane
The nominee of the Catholic Education Office

Greg O'Mullane is the Deputy Director of School Services for the Catholic Education Office in the Northern Territory. In this position he oversees resourcing for all Catholic schools in the areas of Finance, Infrastructure, Planning, Enterprise Bargaining, ICT and the Block Grant Authority. Greg has been in this position for 12 years.

Prior to taking this position he was Principal of O'Loughlin Catholic College for six years and Deputy Principal for eight years at St John’s College.

Greg has been a member of the NT Board of Studies, Senior Course Curriculum Committee for the NT and Chair of the NT Catholic Principals Association. As well as the Teacher Registration Board, Greg is on the Non-Government Schools Ministerial Advisory Committee and Catholic Education Council’s Facilities, Finances and Resources Standing Committee. He is also a member of the NCEC Employment Relations Working Group.

Greg is a member of the Australian College of Education Leaders and a Fellow of the Australian College of Educators and in the immediate past, President of the Australian College of Education, NT Branch.

Louise

Ms Louise Corrigan
The nominee of the NTDET Chief Executive

Louise Corrigan is a Specialist in Teaching and Learning at Anula Primary School.  After starting her career at Tennant Creek Primary School in 2004 she has been obsessed with learning.  Her obsession with learning drives her desire to be a better teacher always.  In 2008 Louise was awarded a Highly Commended for excellence in teaching at the Teaching Australia awards.   Throughout her career she has developed a passion for early childhood education and educational equity and access by sharing her love for learning not just with her students but with parents, the communities she works in, with her colleagues and paraprofessionals.  Louise works in education leadership development across the NT and was a Fellow for the Centre for School Leadership, Learning and Development Preparation for School Leadership Darwin in 2012.  She has shared her knowledge and expertise about the profession of teaching at National and Territory wide conferences sitting on panels and telling stories from her career with references to current educational literature and her vision for school improvement at school and system levels.

Lorraine Hodgson

Ms Lorraine Hodgson
The nominee of the NT Joint Council of Professional Teaching Associations (NTJCPTA)

Lorraine Hodgson is currently the Assistant Principal at Nemarluk School in Darwin and has been teaching in the Northern Territory, urban and remote schools, since 1978. She also brings to the Board a considerable experience and understanding of professional learning for teachers and school leaders. In 2008, Lorraine was awarded by Teaching Australia and the Australian Joint Council of Professional Teaching Associations (AJCPTA), now the Australian Professional Teachers Association, an International Study Tour with the objective of increasing awareness of international leading practice in teaching and leadership, building collaborative networks and sharing experience. Lorraine is an executive member of the Australian Association of Special Education (NT Chapter), Vice President of the Northern Territory Joint Council of Professional Teaching Associations (NTJCPTA) and a Director of the Australian Professional Teachers Association which she has been involved with since May 2007. She served as a Director on the Board of Australian Institute of Teaching and School Leadership. from December 2009 to April 2012.
