Under Section 25 of the Teacher Registration (Northern Territory) Act, the Board may establish committees as it considers appropriate to assist the Board in performing its functions. A committee is to be comprised of one or more members of the Board and any other persons as the Board considers appropriate.
The Board has established five committees to assist it to perform its functions.
All committees can make recommendations to the Board on matters that have been referred to them by the Board. Membership of the committees is by invitation.
All the committees make a significant contribution to the work of the Board in reviewing processes, developing policy, promoting the profession and fulfilling the regulatory and professional responsibilities for the Board under the Act.
Standards and Professional Learning Committee (SPLC)
The SPLC fulfils the functions outlined in Section 11 of the Teacher Registration (Northern Territory) Act which are:
- To liaise with the Agency administering the Education Act m relation to strategic priorities for professional development of teachers in the territory (e)
- To develop and improve professional teaching standards (f)
- To liaise with employers of teachers in the Territory in relation to developing the competencies of teachers during the early stages of the teachers' careers (h)
- To research and promote best practice in teaching in the Territory (i)
The Standards and Professional Learning Committee has the following terms of reference to:
- Make recommendations to the Board on the maintenance of the standards of professional practice on entry and for continuing membership of the profession
- Make recommendations on the development and maintenance of policies and guidelines for Provisional Registration, Full Registration and Registration Renewal requirements
- Engage with the profession through workshops and other professional learning activities related to maintenance of the professional standards
- Provide advice related to developing a Professional Learning Framework for the purposes of continuing education and professional development of teachers
- Advise on research and promotion of best practice in teaching in the Northern Territory.

Registration Procedures Committee (RPC)
The Employer Reference Committee is to be established to:
- Facilitate the exchange of information between employers of teachers and the Teacher Registration Board on matters to do with teacher registration and authorisation policy and procedures, disciplinary procedures and compliance
- Provide advice to the Board on the implementation of the objectives of the Teacher Registration (Northern Territory) Act with regard to registration, authorisation and disciplinary procedures
- Provide advice to the Board on risk and risk management with regard to registration of teachers.

Initial Teacher Education Committee (ITEC)
The ITEC fulfils the functions of the Board outlined in Section 11 (d) of the Act which is to accredit education courses and liaise with institutions providing education courses
The Committee has the following terms of reference:
- To advise the Board and make recommendations on the assessment and accreditation of pre-service teacher education programs
- To ensure graduates meet the Professional Standards for Graduate Teachers in the Northern Territory for the purposes of teacher registration.
